STEPHEN S. GRAVES

Source: Crawfordsville, Indiana Weekly Argus News, Nov 4, 1893 p 8

Carrington and vicinity has again suffered the loss of one of her oldest and best respected citizens. The long suffering of Stephen S. Graves came to an end last Saturday night. Steve, as he was familiarly known by everyone, has been in poor health for several years and has been a great sufferer, but was always bright and cheerful under all circumstances. The deceased was 29 years of age, was born at Crawfordsville, Indiana, migrated to North Dakota in 1885, and has been a resident of this county ever since and has been an honored and respected citizen. Everyone was his friend – as to know him was to be his friend. The funeral services were held at the Congregational Church Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock and were conducted by Rev. Gimblett. The services at the grave were conducted by the Knights of Pythias Lodge of which the deceased was one of its best members, being a true Knight in every sense of the word. To the widow and the little fatherless child who thus early in life are shrouded in sorrow, the heartfelt sympathy of everyone goes out. It was sad to lose the husband and father, but it should be remembered that his long days and knights of suffering are over and that he is at rest in the home on the other shore – Foster County, ND Independent.
